SOURCED IN BRITTANY
An exceptional geographic location
Agrimer is based in Plouguerneau, on the north coast of Brittany, France. The exceptional natural surroundings have been listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1988. The coast of Brittany stretches for 1800 km, accounting for nearly one third of France’s coastline. It counts more than 800 marine species and provides nearly 90% of all seaweed harvested in France.
The coasts of Brittany are subjected to extreme weather conditions such as climate changes, storms, currents, and the highest tides in Europe. To fight the stress of such harsh conditions, seaweed creates natural defense mechanisms that give it exceptional properties and a wealth of biochemical compounds such as polysaccharides, proteins, minerals, vitamins, trace elements, and phenolic compounds.
Historically, marine resources have represented a significant part of economic and social activity in Brittany. Putting them to good use is a tradition. They have been used in thalassotherapy, amending soil, livestock nutrition, and dietary supplementation since the last century and are still inspiring innovations.
Agrimer is proud of its homeland and is a member of the Marque de Bretagne network, which promotes the values and qualities of Brittany’s products abroad.
