Based in Plouguerneau in the north of Brittany, 500m from the sea, AGRIMER benefits from an exceptional environment, classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since 1988.
The Breton coasts are subject to extreme weather phenomena: climatic variations, storms, currents, tidal ranges. Constrained by these extreme stressful conditions, seaweed set up natural self-defense systems, which give them exceptional properties and richness in biochemical compounds: polysaccharides, proteins, minerals, vitamins, trace elements, phenolic compounds, etc.
